Got to admit that I didn’t even know where the Dominican Republic is and had to Google it. Now I know where it I can’t understand why it isn’t as big as Barbados etc. it looks a great island for a vacation.

Good to see rum getting the respect that it deserves. Far too often it’s simply seen as something to pour into cocktails. I’d like to do a rum tasting with an expert to talk me through the tastes.

To be honest I’m not sure that I did the lunch and dinner locations justice. In my defence I have to say that my main objective was to write about the flavours of the Dominican Rroublic.

Such is the strength of the midday sun that most lunches took place sheltered in Amber or Larimar villas. It was the evening al fresco meals under an archway of lights and under the stars which were truly memorable.

It has to be said that, as the picture shows, the beach BBQ was the most memorable of all.

I’ve done a cocktail class in London which was great fun. Though I’d rather have done this one with the Caribbean as the backdrop. A grey, grim drizzly day in London wasn’t quite the same thing.

For me getting to know a country through its food and drink is a huge part of the pleasure of travel. Surely, this has to be the most luxurious way to get yourself acquainted with the flavours of the Dominican Republic?
