Plenty of food for thought here. We are looking around for new ways to spend some quality time with potential new European clients so this may be of relevance.
I like the idea of rewarding top performing staff with a very special day on one of these yachts. I’m not a great believer in monetary bonuses, they quickly become part of the expected remuneration package. Nor do they provide visual imagery of success. Rewarding key staff with a memorable day or two on board a yacht is likely to be more of a motivating factor.
I’m going to print this out and leave it somewhere that our boss might “accidentally” come across it. Over the last 8 years we’ve become a big company, thanks to everybody’s hard work, with enough bucks in the bank to afford the occasional bonding day on a luxury yacht. It would be such a boost to employee morale.
Yacht charter for corporate events is highly appealing but not for us at the moment. It is just not financially feasible on our current revenue. As an aspirational idea that I can include in our next blue-sky thinking session it may have some mileage. It would encourage our staff hugely if they thought that I am setting it as a realistic medium term marketing strategy for developing customer relationships.
Is it selfish that I quite like the idea of chartering a yacht all to my self, just me? I never thought of yachts for corporate events but that’s such a good idea. I’d love to work for a company that decided to do team building by taking a charter out to the Med, rather than attempting canoeing in the cold followed by a pint in a sticky dirty pub! It’s nice to read more about Cannes because aside from the film festival it seems to get very little press, and I must admit I know next to nothing about it as a destination.

Every year my company, which is based in Thailand, used to send these huge gift hampers to reward our partners and leading customers. However, this time, our Marketing and Public Relations Team were bent on doing something different. Because, you know, sending a gift that’s very well expected, regardless of how expensive it is, kills the thrill and excitement.
So this year, we arranged a corporate yacht trip in Phuket! And oh my Lord! As soon as the invitations were dispatched, we were bombarded with phone calls, messages and emails for confirmation.
