Barcelona’s architectural gems: Exploring Gaudí’s masterpieces

Barcelona has some of the best architecture in the world, and much of that can be credited to the architectural genius, Antoni Gaudí. Let’s take a look at some of his most impressive work!

Casa Vicens

An ideal place to begin your architectural journey is Casa Vicens, as this was Gaudí’s first major project. 

The exterior of the house immediately captures the attention of passersby due to its red, white, green, and blue colour scheme. Despite having a relatively bold appearance, Gaudí was able to still maintain a subtle charm that matches the tranquillity of the Gràcia neighbourhood.

Casa Batlló

Park Güell

One of Barcelona’s biggest attractions is Park Güell, which was also designed by the incredible Antoni Gaudí. This incredible green space should be on everybody’s bucket list when visiting the city.

Originally, there were plans to turn the area into a housing estate, however, there was a lack of interest from buyers, therefore it was turned into a large private garden, thus creating Park Güell!

As you explore the expansive grounds you will discover colourful mosaics, beautiful arches, incredible views, and two quaint houses (one of which was lived in by Gaudí). Park Güell is truly beautiful and was classified as a World UNESCO Heritage Site in 1984, further proving its significance.

Casa Milà (La Pedrera)

Another one of Gaudí’s masterpieces, Casa Milà (La Pedrera) can be found along Passeig de Gràcia.

La Sagrada Familia

Undoubtedly, La Sagrada Familia stands as Gaudí’s most famous structure. The one-of-a-kind church was first designed in 1882 and is set to be finished in 2026, however, you don’t have to wait until then to experience its beauty.

Gaudí integrated a variety of architectural styles throughout the construction of the church, and upon visiting, you will notice numerous features which are commonly associated with Gothic churches and classic Greek sculptures. La Sagrada Familia has seven apsidal chapels, numerous complex columns, and a variety of beautiful stained glass windows, all of which add to the ethereal beauty of the structure. 

The general entry ticket is the only option for admission into La Sagrada Familia, however the experience of visiting the church is extraordinary in itself, therefore additional tickets are not required.
