I’m surprised that no-one’s come up with this sort of service before. The market’s been crying out for something like this.
Indeed, Stephen – it strikes me as a great offering. I know individual properties sometimes offer these servcies but I’m not aware of anyone else doing it at this kind of scale, and I don’t see any reason why it shouldn’t be in high demand.
Yeah I agree after the pandemic travellers want to be more private. So now those new service are great.
Hi Frank… privacy, space and independence were definitely attributes that people looked for when they could travel during the pandemic, and things that I believe have endured to this day.
One of the reasons where rentals have traditionally lost out to hotels is on the service front. It’s one of the reasons why we’ve always been hesitant to use rental properties. Once we had a magnificent villa where the very helpful owner lived yards away but that was the exception that proves the rule.
I’m sorry to say that I agree. Far too often on our self-catering vacations we’ve felt abandoned and left to our own devices.
I think vacation rental / self-catering accommodation has come on a long way in recent years, but there has long still been a distinction between a luxury hotel and most luxury rental properties. Hopefully this will help bridge that gap.
Even though it is Saturday and I’m having a leisurely breakfast catching up on the world, I’ve put my marketing hat back on.
I think that KEY ought to be working the concierge idea somewhere into their marketing. After all they are well on their way to providing a virtual concierge.
I think this is already a key part of their marketing message, Beth. Have a look at their website and click on the ‘Travelers’ tab. You’ll see it reads:
As I’m in marketing too, I would have probably slipped the word “concierge” in to the copy. There’s a lot of nice associations of personal service that go with concierge. What’s more it also links to the luxury of all those high-end hotels and gets the reader thinking of so many services that a concierge can undertake.
My legs have decided that they don’t want to go skiing anymore. It could be a hint that the dog-sledding’s the thing for me. All the better if I’ve got a warm and cosy rental house as a base.
Whilst I’m not much of a skier, I can relate to what you are saying, Jeff. (I find running increasingly difficult!!!) Whatever takes your fancy, KEY offers a huge array of curated experiences so there really should be something for everyone.
We’ve had some great welcome baskets over the years in rental properties. At times they’ve been a little too generous and it’s been a pity to see food go to waste.
And lately there’s been a tendency for local suppliers to fill the basket to promote their name. How much organic cider vinegar do you use on holiday?
If Key can give guests more control over what they actually want that will be a big step forward. Arriving and knowing that the provisions you need will be there should take the pressure off the start of a holiday.
Hi Sally – can’t say we’ve ever had to waste items from our welcome baskets over the years. Sure, there have been one or two perishable items sometimes, but never in such quantities that it has been problematic. But sure… by ordering groceries in advance, you can request what you want ahead of your arrival, and you know what items to expect also, so this can all help with planning a getaway.
Thinking back to the days before the pandemic I can remember that the theme for the Travel News sections on A Luxury Travel Market was always the same : significant growth at the top end in the luxury travel segment. There were some staggering forecasts being made.
There is no doubt that COVID brought a hiatus and that there were casualties in the luxury industry.
It seems to me, talking to friends and colleagues, that incarceration during lockdowns has made us even more discerning when to comes to those precious days of annual leave. The luxury segment is roaring back.
Key has probably found the right time and the right service to launch. It is exactly what so many people are looking for.
Hi Steve – I always read that the luxury end of the travel industry would be the one to bounce back first. Maybe we are starting to see that truly come to fruition now.
