Fairly familiar with most of these and I’ve even been to 7 of them.
Jackson Hole’s crept in under the radar. I’ve heard of it but don’t know much about the place. Thanks for alerting me. I’ll have to take a deeper look.
Hi Nick,
Thanks so much for taking the time to read the post and leave a comment.
Glad you found a hidden gem too! :)
All my friends tell me that Whistler is both the place to ski and for apres-ski. I’ll have to give it a go.
Hi Fred,
That’s great to hear!
Nothing like a good skiing holiday – the crisp mountain air does wonders for the soul.
My god-daughter spent 3 months of her gap year in Fiji and absolutely loved it. Her photos are incredible. I definitely want to follow in her footsteps though as I have a job and a mortgage I won’t be able to stay as long as 3 months.
Hi Rachel,
Three months in Fiji sounds like absolute bliss.
And I’m sure a few days would be just as incredible!
I think my family would take any of these! We’re getting to the stage where our teenagers are either asleep or glued to a screen so I think that they should be OK on a long haul flight.
Hi Suzy,
That sounds like a great idea to me. :)
Maybe it’s the start of a family travel bucket-list?
This is beyond our normal 2 weeks on the Costa del Sol for a family holiday.
Now that our kids are becoming teenagers may be it is time to think a bit bigger when it comes to holidays.
Back in the day my wife and I were big travellers but over the last 15 years it’s all seemed too much trouble. Thanks for making me think again.
Hi Jez,
I love to hear that.
Travelling is an incredible experience, and the Costa del Sol is definitely a great spot for a regular family getaway.
Let me know if you pick one of these spots next time.
Happy travelling!
You’re right about family holidays creating great memories. It’s over 20 years at least since our children left the nest and they still talk about some of the holidays that we went on. We alternated having a cheaper UK holiday every other year between more expensive foreign holidays. Funnily, the kids have as many memories of camping in the rain in Devon as they have of going to Disneyland in LA.
Hi Steven,
So glad it resonated with you and so lovely to read this comment from you.
Reading it now made me think of a few of my own family holiday moments.
Thank you for sharing this with us!
We’ve been lucky enough to have a lottery win, nothing life changing but enough to give us a couple of treats that we wouldn’t have been able to afford in the usual run of things.
That’s why we are doing some research on what should be the holiday of a lifetime. There are lots of great suggestions here for us to think about.
Hi Sara,
Thank you for sharing this and congrats on your recent win!
I know you’ll find the perfect place to make memories.
When I read posts like this there’s part of me that feels disappointed that I’ve seen so little of the world. Then on the other hand I get excited that there’s so much more that I’ve still got left to see.
Hi Richie,
I can 100% relate to this! :)
No doubt that these destinations live up to the billing. They’re all dreamy.
Hi Dick,
Definitely worth the savings plan! :)
Time and time again I’ve been tempted by a family trip to the Maldives especially as the islands often pick up awards as the best travel destination. The trouble is that there are 26 atolls and I’m guessing that means that there are dozens of different islands and hotel.
When I’m going to travel that far and spend all that money I’m worried about making the right choice.
Hi Jack,
Great to hear you’re considering a family trip to the Maldives! I understand your concerns about choosing the right island and hotel in a place with so many options.
Here’s some suggestions to help you make the best choice:
– Know Your Priorities: Start by listing the top activities and experiences that are important to you and your family. Are you more interested in water sports, relaxation on the beach, exploring marine life, or cultural experiences? This will help you narrow down your options.
– Research Each Atoll: Each atoll has its own unique features. Research each atoll to understand what it offers. Some atolls are known for excellent diving opportunities, while others are perfect for serene beach getaways. Which atolls align with your family’s interests most?
– Consider the Budget: Different islands and resorts in the Maldives come with varying price ranges. Establish a budget you’re comfortable with and focus your research on options within that range. Keep in mind that some all-inclusive resorts may offer better value for your money, but not always.
– Read Reviews: Look for online reviews and testimonials from travellers who have visited the Maldives. These can provide valuable insights into the quality of accommodations, services, and activities offered by different resorts.
– Connect with Travel Agents Or Join Community Facebook Groups: If you’re still unsure, consider reaching out to travel agents who specialise in the Maldives, or check what people are saying in Facebook community groups. These are great places to get advice and helps tailor your trip to your family’s preferences.
– Get in Touch with Resorts: Feel free to contact the resorts you’re interested in directly. Their staff can answer your questions, provide more details, and even help customise your trip based on your family’s needs.
– Don’t overwhelm yourself. The Maldives is a dream destination, and you can hardly go wrong with any choice. It all comes down to what suits your family’s preferences and budget the most.
Safe travels and enjoy your trip planning!
Machu Picchu would be more choice. I think our boys would be up for an adventure and my wife and I would love to try out some eco lodges along the way.
We had a day and a half in Vienna in the summer for the start of a Danube river cruise. It was utterly brilliant but very frustrating at the same time.
We had been to Vienna before and had forgotten what a great city it is. Also having the ship’s guide gave his a whole new perspective on the grand imperial heritage of the city.
Though it was disappointing to hear about the opera, the concerts and the dances without getting along to a single one.
Vienna is definitely on our list for a much longer visit soon.
We went to Vienna last summer and we didn’t make the most of the trip. Going round all the sights wax great as we had some fantastic guides. What was frustrating was that we saw adverts for concerts and operas that were going on. Some were already sold out and some were happening by the time we’d gone home. Also there was a great looking restaurant that was always booked up. For us the lesson was that we should have done way more planning. Vienna is an amazing city and it’s tragic to miss out on it.
Hey Paul, just read your fantastic article on luxury family holiday destinations, and I’m loving the suggestions! From the stunning beaches of the Maldives to the adventurous safaris in South Africa, you’ve covered it all. I’m actively looking for a new trip idea with my LO. Your tips on finding family-friendly accommodations and activities are super helpful. I putting Peru in my 2025 backlist!
Thanks for the inspiration!
