Barcelona’s unique workshops: Discover local creativity
When visiting a new city it’s important to experience the culture, and one of the best ways to do this is by participating in a workshop. Fortunately, Barcelona has a range of exquisite classes that allow you to explore the city’s creativity, history, and culture.
Let’s take a look at a few of Barcelona’s unique workshops so that you can have a truly unforgettable trip!
Craft your own leather accessories
Spain is undoubtedly one of the most fashionable cities in Europe, and because of this, Barcelona has become a popular shopping destination. The wide selection of stores and brands in Barcelona is truly mesmerising, however, why not elevate your shopping experience by taking part in a fashion-focussed workshop?
Bonenfant Atelier, a family-run boutique in the Gothic Quarter, offers the chance to create your very own bespoke leather accessories, allowing you to add a personal and luxurious touch to your items. From bags and belts, to card holders and phone cases, you are spoilt for choice on pieces to create.
This workshop is an excellent outlet for creativity and allows your inner fashion connoisseur to be explored!
Art workshop
Barcelona has numerous museums and galleries displaying its finest works, but wouldn’t it be incredible if there was a workshop where you could paint your own artwork? Well, Maison Cactus, located in the Gothic Quarter, offers exactly this!
This art gallery and studio is run by a French artist named Corin, who moved to Barcelona after discovering his true passion for painting. His exclusive workshops range between 2 and 3 hours and they encourage participants to discover their inner artist by creating their own masterpieces.
Pottery painting
For those visiting Barcelona in search of a tranquil city escape, we recommend taking part in a therapeutic yet creative workshop, such as pottery painting.
Barcelona has a plethora of pottery studios, but a firm favourite is La Ceramicaria. This studio has over 100 pottery pieces to choose from, ensuring that attendees can find and design their perfect ceramic. With locations in El Born, Gràcia, and Sants, La Ceramicaria is a clear favourite amongst locals and tourists alike.
Painting a ceramic is an excellent way of expressing your creativity, and it also holds sentimental value too, as you get to take your masterpiece home and keep it as a cherished keepsake from your travels in Barcelona.

Authentic paella-making
Paella is a staple dish in Spain’s culinary scene, and of course, we recommend eating it whilst visiting Barcelona. However, you could elevate your experience even further by learning how to cook this iconic dish yourself.
The Paella Club, located in the Gothic Quarter, offers an authentic paella-making workshop that promises a truly unique experience. Local chefs will guide you through the cooking class, teaching you numerous tips and tricks to prepare the perfect paella.
Whilst cooking, you can savour a glass of delicious cava and learn more about Barcelona’s impressive culture, cuisine, and history. Doesn’t that sound delightful!
Create custom espadrilles
Espadrilles are a traditional type of Spanish footwear that remain a fashion staple in Barcelona. You will notice numerous shops selling these beautiful shoes, but to fully immerse yourself into the culture, we highly recommend creating your own Espadrilles at Handmade the Brand.
This family-owned shop specialises in crafting Espadrilles and offers a variety of classes where you can learn the skills to create and design your own unique pair. Additionally, for those that are unable to attend the workshop in person, the shop also offers virtual workshops. Through these online classes, you will learn about the history of Espadrilles and receive your custom-made product in the post. How incredible!
Design your own bikini
When visiting Barcelona, it is likely that you will spend some time exploring the city’s beautiful beaches. So why not make your trip even more memorable by designing your own bikini while you’re here?
Camila CTG, a renowned swimwear shop in Barcelona, offers the chance to embrace the city’s coastal charm by designing your own bikini. You can customise your bikini with a range of patterns and images, creating a piece that matches Barcelona’s incredible beach culture.
Whether you’re lounging by the Mediterranean or taking part in exciting water sports, your personalised bikini from Camila CTG will definitely make a stylish statement.
Customise your own jewellery
Jewellery isn’t just an accessory; it can elevate your outfit, make a thoughtful gift for a friend, or become a sentimental keepsake filled with cherished memories. Whatever your reason for buying jewellery, an exciting workshop is waiting for you… where you can create your own custom pieces!
I Wear Dolls offers the opportunity to personalise jewellery pieces to reflect your unique personality. Choose from various charms, pendants, and designs to craft an accessory that holds deep meaning for you.
The jewellery store also provides welded pieces, so you can create permanent bracelets that stylishly capture your memories of Barcelona.
Each of these workshops gives you the opportunity to create, learn, and connect with the city’s vibrant culture and artistry. Participating in such activities will leave you with lasting memories and a profound appreciation for Barcelona’s heritage.

I did an art workshop in Lisbon and it was one of the best days of travel I’ve ever had. It wasn’t just the art, it was also learning so much about Lisbon.
I talked to the teachers throughout the morning and there was a travel writer at the workshop on her last day in the city. I was on my second day and she gave me plenty of good tips on what to do and where to go for the rest of my stay.
To cap it all I had a half-decent piece of art, an impression of one of the Portuguese navigator’s ships, to take home too.
Next stop then a Barcelona art workshop!
Thanks for the comment Jen! It sounds like you had an incredible time in Lisbon. Art workshops can definitely add a special touch to travel, combining learning and creativity! I hope you get the chance to experience Barcelona’s workshops soon!
There is no doubt about it. The Espadrilles workshop for me please!
Thanks for commenting Natasha! An espadrilles workshop is a fantastic choice!
Plenty of great ideas here … but the design your own bikini isn’t one for me. I don’t think I’d trust my design nor my skills.
Thank you for your comment, Jess! I believe in your design skills, but there are many other exciting workshops to consider, so feel free to explore all the options!
For me this chance to discover new skills and new talents, in workshops like these, is one of the great opportunities of travel.
Though it works both ways, my husband had always thought he had it in him to be a F1 driver. After getting lapped by a couple of other drivers on the Brooklands track he realised after all that he hadn’t missed his vocation.
You’re absolutely right Elizabeth! It’s amazing how travelling can open up opportunities to explore and uncover new passions. It sounds like your husband’s experience was quite an eye-opener, but it’s fantastic that he had the chance to experience that passion firsthand!
There’s nothing better than a good craft workshop for getting you to slow down when you’re on your travels.
My wife rushes about with her to do list ticking off all the sights she wants to see and all the things she wants to and it can all become too rushed.
Sitting down at a craft workshop and talking to people enhances the travel experience.
Thanks for the comment Myles! Craft workshops are a fantastic way to immerse yourself in the local culture and take a breather from the hustle and bustle of sightseeing.
Often after a trip to Spain I’ve returned home to recreate a magnificent paella that I’ve enjoyed on my holiday.
I’ve gone to a great deal of time, trouble and expense gathering together the right ingredients and then sadly the paella doesn’t seem quite right. I need to do a paella workshop.
Thank you for your comment, Tim! Participating in a paella workshop is an excellent way to bring that authentic Spanish flavor into your home. If you have the opportunity, I highly recommend trying out a Spanish cooking class!
